The Warrnambool Campus history dates back to the 1800s when the Mechanics Institute
was established. Following this, the post-World War II boom brought a series of
major building projects to the town and in 1958 the newly established Warrnambool
Technical College opened its doors on a small section of the existing site in Warrnambool's
CBD.
The post-World War II boom brought a series of major building projects to the town
and in 1958 the newly established Warrnambool Technical College opened its doors
on a small section of the existing site in Warrnambool's CBD.
In 1969 the College was renamed and restructured to become the Warrnambool Institute
of Advanced Education, offering both TAFE and university courses. Soon to outgrow
this location, all university programs were moved to Sherwood Park and eventually
became part of Deakin University. In 1984 the Warrnambool site was renamed as the
Warrnambool College of TAFE.
Three years later the Hamilton, Portland and Warrnambool Technical Colleges joined
forces to create the South West College of TAFE (now South West Institute of TAFE).
Since then the Warrnambool Campus has assumed responsibilities for centralised portfolios
such as the Office of the CEO, Business Strategy and Corporate Services. The Warrnambool
Campus continues to deliver a full range of training courses and qualifications.
A series of major redevelopments were carried out from 2002 - 2009 and today the
Warrnambool Campus incorporates the original site plus an adjoining suite of heritage
and purpose-built facilities. The Campus also boasts state-of-the-art training and
conferencing facilities.
