  • Construction Induction (Short Course)

    If you work or are intending to work in the construction industry, occupational health and safety induction training is mandatory. This rule came into effect on 1 July 2008. This short course covers the skills and knowledge required to work safely in the construction industry. It is specifically designed to meet the requirements for registration and card issue by WorkSafe.

  • Grid Connect PV Installer Accreditation (Short Course)

    Designed for electricians who wish to acquire the skills and knowledge to competently install a grid-connect PV system, successful completion of this course will make you eligible to apply for Clean Energy Council (CEC) Accreditation. This is usually required for all government rebates and connection to the electrical grid.

  • Health & Safety Representatives Initial Occupational Health & Safety Training Course (Short Course)

    Keeping apace with workplace health and safety laws is of paramount importance. The Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 entitles Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) to undergo appropriate training in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).

    This course is especially designed for HSR’s and Deputy HSR’s (DepHSRs) . It is not assessed against competency criteria but intended to assist HSRs understand and exercise their knowledge effectively, to make their workplace safer.

    Although HSRs and DepHSRs are the primary audience, managers, supervisors, health and safety committee members and anyone with an interest in health and safety may also benefit from attending.
  • Health and Safety Representatives Refresher OHS Training Course (Short Course)

    An opportunity is available through this course to refresh the knowledge, skills and confidence of Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs (DepHSRs), to enable them to carry out their role within the Workplace.

    This is a WorkSafe Victoria (WorkSafe) approved course for workplace HSRs and DepHSRs. The broad purpose of the course is to refresh HSR knowledge, skills and confidence that enables them to perform their rights and exercise their knowledge and powers for the purposes of representing members of their Designated Work Group (DWG) and to help make their workplace safer.
  • Innovative Jewellery with Vicki Mason (Short Course)

    Use telephone wire, recycled textiles,embroidery and PVC to make jewellery that sits ‘outside the box.’ Simple low-tech joining and fabrication processes as well as engineering and design considerations required for designing wearable work for the body will be covered. Taught in a professional but fun environment this workshop will enable students of all abilities to expand their repertoire across the making spectrum. Found objects and recycled materials can also be included in works.
  • Install Split Systems (Short Course)

    This hands on course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to install single head split systems up to 18Kw as well as recover, evacuate and charge refrigeration systems.
  • Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck (Short Course)

    Forklift trucks are present in many workplaces because of their versatility and usefulness. This short course provides training in how to safely operate a forklift truck and upon successful assessment, you will be able to apply for a Licence to Perform High Risk Work for Forklift (Class LF). Entry requirements apply.
  • Licence to Operate an Elevating Work Platform (Short Course)

    Modes: Short Course

    Gain practical and theoretical training in the safe operation of a boom type elevating work platform in this program. The training will include locating, setting up, operating and shutting down the plant.
  • Licence to Perform Dogging (Short Course)
    Campuses: Portland
    Modes: Short Course

    Holding a Dogging Certificate opens up employment opportunities in areas where cranes or lifting equipment are used such as construction sites, building sites, depots, off-shore, mining and maintenance industries. The aim of this course is to provide the participant with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to carry out Dogging duties.

    The course is subject to ongoing assessment of practical skills, general knowledge, slinging methods and crane usage. Following successful completion of the assessment, you will be able to apply for a Licence to Perform High Risk Work for Dogging (Class DG). Entry requirements apply.
  • Marine Licence & PWC (Personal Watercraft) Endorsement (Short Course)

    Transport Safety Victoria’s boat operator licensing regime requires anyone who operates a registered recreational boat to be licensed. The aim is to ensure boat operator licensing will greatly improve safety on Victorian waterways by ensuring that all licence holders will have at least a basic knowledge of waterway rules and safe boat operation. Entry requirements apply.
  • Medical Terminology (Short Course)

    A basic introduction to the use of medical terms in the health sciences. The course is general in its content but opportunities are provided to give information in specialist areas, if required.
  • Motorcycle Learner Permit Training (10 hour program) (Short Course)
    Campuses: Sherwood Park
    Modes: Short Course

    Before you ride a motorcycle, think about your level of skill. With an emphasis on the importance of correct driver attitudes, South West Institute of TAFE aims to develop safer riders through the Motorcycle Learner Permit Program.

    If you are unsure about your ability to handle your bike on the road, this training program will teach you more about yourself and your bike in two days than you’ll learn in a year by trial and error.

    With an emphasis upon the importance of correct driver attitudes, South West Institute of TAFE aims to develop safer riders through the Motorcycle Learner Permit Program.
    A range of different motorcycle makes and models including sports, cruisers and naked upright bikes are available for you to experience during the learner permit training.
  • Motorcycle Licence Training & Assessment (Short Course)
    Campuses: Hamilton (Hammond Street), Portland, Sherwood Park
    Modes: Short Course

    The Motorcycle Licence Training and Assessment course has been introduced to assist motorcycle riders who have held a motorcycle learner permit for a minimum of three months to obtain their motorcycle licence. The one day training program culminating in the assessment for a motorcycle licence will further develop your riding skills and techniques.
    The advanced rider skills training will assist with safety on the road and will be facilitated by experienced and qualified trainers.
    It is recommended that you practice and ride on your own motorcycle (must be roadworthy and registered), however motorcycles are available to hire if required. A range of different makes and models of motorcycles including sports, cruisers and naked upright bikes are available for hire.
  • Operate and Maintain Chainsaws (Short Course)
    Campuses: Hamilton (Hammond Street), Portland
    Modes: Short Course

    Through a combination of classroom and practical training, participants will learn the skills required to safely prepare, operate and maintain hand-held chainsaws in a work environment.
  • Port Campbell Jetty Crane - Safety Training (Short Course)
    Modes: Short Course

    To operate the Port Campbell jetty crane, Parks Victoria requires evidence of completion of this specific training program. Designed to provide the skills and knowledge to safely operate the crane at Port Campbell jetty (installed November 2011), a short course certificate will be provided to participants upon successful completion of a brief theory and practical assessment.
