Children's Services is an area of growing job potential, as the demands on families to balance work and family increases.

Whether you would like to start a career in the early childhood industry or upgrade your current qualification, we have a course to suit you.

From Certificate III programs – which allow you to gain employment at entry level positions, through to Diploma level, our Children's Services courses are respected by industry across the region. Students gain highly sought after practical skills through student placements at local childcare establishments and in simulated children's playrooms.

The Diploma of Children’s Services is offered full time or 2 years part time for existing workers only.

At the Portland Campus students have access to the new playground ground facilities complete with a community playgroup run from the campus.

With the practical training you’ll receive during this course, you can look forward to a rewarding career as a childcare assistant, a family day carer or nanny. Designed to provide an introduction into understanding, caring for and supporting the development of young children, this course addresses children’s profiles in relation to planning activities and providing adequate care. It also teaches students how to facilitate leisure and play time and offers strategies for helping children to achieve their developmental outcomes. The qualification required in gaining employment in the children’s services industry and a prerequisite for entry into the Diploma level program —graduates may pursue positions including child care assistant, outside school hours care assistant, playgroup supervisor, recreation assistant, family day care worker, nanny, child care worker.

    Course DescriptionIdeal for those seeking a recognised qualification to work in the child care sector, this diploma qualifies you to work in centre-based and family day care, and supervise other staff and volunteers. Students will develop the skills required to meet the intellectual, language, physical, social and emotional needs of children in care including; foster and enhance children’s development, provide experiences to facilitate children’s development, work in partnership with families to care for children and ensure children’s health and safety. Career opportunities include authorised supervisor, centre manager, child care worker, children’s adviser, children’s service director/manage/coordinator, group/team coordinator/leader or child development worker.
