WorldSkills Australia South West Region 2022 Competitions are coming to South West TAFE!

About World Skills

WorldSkills Australia promotes and builds a skills culture, celebrates excellence and showcases vocational education and training, trades and apprenticeships. It focuses on fostering career pathways for Australia’s young people and empowering them to become successful global citizens.

Every two years, regional competitions take place to test the skills and knowledge of apprentices, trainees and students. Successful competitors have the opportunity to compete for medals in their chosen skills nationally, or even internationally.

WorldSkills competitions at SWTAFE

In 2022, we will be hosting the WorldSkills competitions for the South West region. The one-day competitions held at SWTAFE are:

Hairdressing

The hairdressing competition is open to students undertaking a VET DSS hairdressing course. During the competition, you will be judged on ladies shampoo, hair and scalp treatment, head, neck and shoulder massage, dry hair to shape under supervision, braid design from a photo and creative long hair braid with ornamentation.

Beauty Therapy

The beauty therapy competition is open to students undertaking a beauty therapy course. During the competition, you will be judged on facials, lash and brow tint, eyebrow wax, half leg wax, makeup application and manicure service.

Cookery

The cookery competition is open to students undertaking a commercial cookery apprenticeship. You will be given a list of ingredients, which will be available to order prior. You will then prepare your dishes and be judged on a number of criteria.

Engineering

The engineering competition is open to students undertaking an engineering mechanical trade apprenticeship. During the competition, you will be judged on your practical skills performed on the lathe, planning skills demonstrated by completing a job plan and analytical skills demonstrated by collecting information and calculating appropriate speeds and feeds.

Carpentry

The carpentry competition is open to students undertaking a carpentry apprenticeship. During the competition, you will be required to construct one saw stool and will be judged on accurate set-out and cutting of components and tight-fitting joints.

Automotive

The automotive competition is open to students undertaking an automotive apprenticeship. During the competition, you will be judged on inspecting, servicing and repairing engine management spark ignition, cooling systems, brakes, steering and suspension, engine mechanical, and vehicle service and electrical check.
