Course Overview
Introduction

Get ready for your plumbing career. There are lots of career opportunities for apprentice plumbers, within the building industry and also as sole traders.

The Certificate III in Plumbing will give you a top trade qualification and you will learn the latest in plumbing skills to be an asset to your employer throughout your apprenticeship. You will gain experience in a variety of areas including water, roofing, drainage and gas fitting.

As an apprentice, you will be given the opportunity to put this knowledge into practice in the workplace, gaining hands-on skills and experience as a plumber.

What will I Learn?

This course allows you to gain knowledge and skills to work in the plumbing industry. Abilities to work in the areas of roof plumbing, Sanitary and drainage, hot cold and warm water, gas fitting, mechanical plumbing, irrigation and fire protection.

The course includes hands-on experience with theory and practical components, which will assist you while you are employed as an apprentice plumber. 

Course Outcomes and Career Opportunities

Upon successful completion, you will have the skills and knowledge to gain work as a qualified plumber.

Pathways

Upon successful completion of this course, you may choose to undertake the Certificate IV in Plumbing Services to gain a licence to operate your own plumbing business.

Entrance requirements & pre-requisites

You must be employed as an apprentice with a registered plumbing employer.

You must also live or work in South Australia for the duration of your course.

Apprenticeship/Traineeship Entry Requirements

You need to be employed in this field as an apprentice or trainee before commencing this course.

Assessment

This course involves accredited units.  You will be required to complete assessment tasks to demonstrate your underpinning knowledge, skills and attributes to meet the course outcomes.  A combination of written, oral and practical assessment strategies will be used in either a classroom, online or workplace environment. 

Where units require demonstration of skills in a workplace environment, you will have the opportunity to do this either in your own workplace (where appropriate), through a practical placement, or by using one of the Institute's simulated workshops/classrooms.  Detailed information about the types, conduct and dates of assessments will be provided in advance.  You will also be provided with information about the opportunity for reassessment and appeal.

  • Consumables/material fee

There are 3 different rates of tuition fees. Only one will apply to you depending on your eligibility and circumstances. The 3 categories include:

If funding is utilised, this may affect future opportunities to access additional funding in the future.

Concession rate

If you meet all Skills SA eligibility criteria and hold a current healthcare or pension card that you can provide at enrolment, you may be eligible for the concession rate. It’s important to note that the concession rate is only applicable for Certificate l to Certificate lV courses.

Full fee rate

If you do not meet the Skills SA eligibility criteria, don't qualify for an exemption or are enrolling in a course that is not government-subsidised, you may be required to pay the full fee rate.

How do I pay my fees?

Once we have processed your enrolment form, you will receive an email with your invoice.

You have three options when organising your payment:

  1. Upfront payment - can be made over the phone with EFTPOS
  1. Payment plan - can be directly debited from your bank account, debited from your Centrelink payments or via a VET Student Loan (for diploma or advanced diploma courses only)
  1. Paid by employer, school or job network agency - if your fees are being paid by your employer, school or job network agency, you will need to complete an Authority to Invoice form.

Payments will need to be arranged within five(5) business days of receiving the email containing your invoice.

We also offer a range of scholarships each year which you may be eligible to apply for to assist with course fees.
