Course Overview

This practical course provides you with introductory training in the interpersonal skills that are essential for basic counselling, and that may be applied in other situations where someone requires support and understanding.

The course content covers the use of various counselling skills, providing you with an opportunity to practice these skill in each session.

While this course teaches basic counselling skills, it is not a substitute for full counselling qualifications and years of practical experience.

  • body language in communication
  • helping others to feel comfortable and to talk more openly and freely
  • developing better listening and observation skills
  • responding verbally – what to say, what not to say
  • building trust and empathy
  • clarifying and understanding the feelings of others
  • helpful and unhelpful questions.

Course Requirements
For this course, you will need to:

  • provide photo ID to the trainer on the first day of the course
  • bring a pen and paper
  • wear casual clothing.

How do I pay for the short course?

There are three simple steps when applying for a course with us. 

  1. Book – you can book and pay for your place online via the book now button.  A tax invoice/receipt is automatically emailed to you upon payment.
  2. Confirmation – you will receive an email confirming the date, time and location of the course. 
  3. Attend and complete the short course - 100% attendance of the short course is required. Upon successful completion and within 30 days of the short course, you will be sent a Certificate of Attendance.
