We’re building a future for women in trades

Partially transparent design of a fingerprint

At South West TAFE we are committed to providing equality in education and aim to empower women in trade careers.

Our newest initiative aims to promote inclusivity and address gender disparities in traditional trades, encouraging women of all ages to take the first step into the diverse and rewarding trades sector.

A career in trades is a great choice – here’s why

According to Empowered Women In Trades, female representation in trades is only three per cent, with some trades such as plumbing and welding having only one per cent female representation.

Whether you’re a school leaver looking to pursue a career as a builder or an employee looking to retrain as a plumber – now is the perfect time to get started in the trades industry.

A trade career can give you:

  • secure employment – become part of one the most in-demand sectors in the country,
  • career development – Earn competitive wages,
  • the chance to run your own business – Gain a nationally-recognised qualification and work anywhere in Australia,
  • hands-on skills – Learn practical skills for life.
