Chelsea finds rewarding career in educating young children

/ Success Story
Spending time with her young cousins motivated Chelsea to start a career in Early Childhood Education and Care.

I loved spending time with my young cousins and it made me realise how much I enjoy spending time with children and that I would love to be able to support and educate children through their early stages of life.

I started off studying the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care through VET DSS while I was in Years 11 and 12 at school.

This allowed me to partially complete this course and then, after finishing Year 12, I secured a traineeship with Warrnambool City Council at Central Kindergarten. I’ll be qualified by the end of the year.

I love seeing the progression of the children from the start of the year to the end. They all grow so much with their fine and gross motor skills, confidence and friendships and it’s really rewarding to play a part in that.

My teachers have been amazing and reach out regularly to see if I need any assistance with anything. A traineeship has been fantastic for me because I can study at my own pace while working and getting valuable industry experience.

Once I’m qualified, I’d love to continue as either an educator at a kinder or childcare centre. I plan to also complete my Diploma once I’ve had a bit more experience working in the industry.
