“I originally came to South West TAFE to improve my home gardening skills but this course inspired me to take it further.

“My children were grown up and I thought it was the perfect time to change careers and follow my passion for horticulture,” she said.

Kim said the teachers at South West TAFE were amazing in helping her to find an apprenticeship and she now loves working for Direct Seed, a revegetation company working to establish shelterbelts and woodlots for farms through direct seeding of native vegetation.

She said her studies had taught her so much about plant identification, propagation, pests and diseases and chemical use.

She has now just started a Diploma of Conservation and Ecosystem Management which is helping her to expand her knowledge and gain a greater understanding of some of the revegetation work she currently assists with.
