How to Advance Your Career as a nail technician

The excitement of beginning your career as a nail technician is being in a career of constant learning. You can carry out a range of steps which help propel your career forward.

  • Develop new services: The more services you can perform, the more clients you can attract. We recommend attending advanced training courses and workshops for new skills as much as possible. This allows you to learn new techniques and connects you with fellow professionals to share different ideas and creative inspiration. Also consider earning other certifications, such as the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy or the Diploma of Beauty Therapy.
  • Start your own business: For people who want to be their own boss, launching your own business and offering your services can be the ultimate way to advance your career. Start by applying for an Australian Business Number (ABN), which identifies you as a business and legally allows you to be paid for your services.
One of the most important parts of starting your own business is setting yourself apart. If you understand what you do best and why people should choose you, you can attract more customers by marketing yourself around your expertise. For instance, you may be particularly adept at creating 3D nail artworks. As we will unpack next, the importance of proper marketing for your business is also vital.
  • Market yourself: If you plan to become a freelance nail technician, it’s important to be across the different channels for marketing your services. Today, social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and TikTok allow freelancers to showcase their work, attract new customers and share any positive testimonials. Take inspiration from other technicians on how they market their services on social media, and why it’s effective for booking new appointments. Creating a professional website with an online booking system can also be a great way to add legitimacy to your services.
