Introduction
The Motorcycle Check Ride is a compulsory coaching course to be completed one month before attempting the Motorcycle Licence Assessment.
It is recommended that you hold your Motorcycle Learner Permit for a minimum of three months before completing a Motorcycle Check Ride.
In the Check Ride, you will go through handling of the motorcycle, thinking about why you want to ride and the safety decisions you need to make as a rider. You will also have an on-range and on-road assessment to review your current motorcycle skills and knowledge post learner permit training.
This course includes coaching on:
- breaking from a point
- simulated road riding
- pre-road briefing
- riding in traffic
- moving off from a parked position on the side of the road
- approaching a turn and accelerating to a safe speed after turning
- turning left at a cross or T intersection
- turning right at a cross or T intersection
- coming to a complete stop at a STOP sign before proceeding, when safe to do so
- slowing down and giving way at a GIVE WAY sign before proceeding, when safe to do so
- riding through a roundabout or signalised intersection (if available)
- riding a section of multi-lane road (if available)
- riding through a curve, and preferably a series of two curves.
Course outcomes
Upon successful completion, you will be provided with a VicRoads Check Ride Receipt, allowing you authorisation to proceed with your Motorcycle Licence Assessment (subject to subsequent licence/permit refusal, suspension or cancellation).
