Nathan was attending secondary school in Heywood when he heard about the Certificate II in Building Construction at South West TAFE and said it was a perfect fit for him.

After finishing his year 12 studies, Nathan started a pre-apprenticeship and then gained an apprenticeship with Searle Brothers based in Ballarat working on commercial sites across the south-west.

Nathan is now in the third year of his apprenticeship and loves what he is doing.
He said the VET DSS program had given him a taste of what it would be like to have a career in the building industry and it encouraged him to continue his studies.

“It certainly helped me with my on-the-job skills and prepared me well for the workforce,” he said.

He said he was extremely happy with what he was doing at the moment but said this career provided him with so many opportunities down the track.
