Laura decided to start studying the Certificate III in Individual Support while she was working in the kitchen at Moyne Health Services.

"I fell in love with the residents and found myself getting frustrated that I couldn’t do more to help them.

"I have always had a caring nature but my course taught me so many new skills required in my every day work," she said.

Laura said the teachers at SWTAFE were so supportive and she really enjoyed the practical training in the nursing lab.

"It has given me so many more opportunities. I’ve been lucky to have gained employment at Moyne Health Services in Port Fairy.

"Being able to walk into work every day and make people smile is so rewarding," she said.

Laura said her plan was to continue studying and become more involved in palliative care.

"Being able to make someone more comfortable in their final days is such a beautiful and satisfying experience," she said.
