MATT Baxter grew up on a dairy farm at The Sisters so working in the agricultural industry was always going to be a natural progression.

Matt completed a Certificate III in Agriculture at South West TAFE while he was still at high school and also worked one day a week at Banquet Angus Stud in Mortlake.

“I’ve grown up with cattle and I’ve always known that’s what I was going to do. I definitely love that I’ve been able to turn it into a career,” Matt said.

Straight after finishing school Matt was offered a full-time job as a livestock agent at Charles Stewart & Co. in Camperdown.

Matt, 19, now spends his days travelling across the region, meeting with farmers and buying and selling cattle for clients. “I get to meet a lot of people which is the best part of my job.

“My job is to basically get the farmers the best possible price for their livestock. It’s so rewarding when you achieve a high cattle price for your clients and it’s great that you can make people happy with your work,” he said.

Matt said the course was really broad, and as a result there were lots of
places it could take you.
