Ozzie starts a new career in Horticulture

/ Success Story
A change of employment during the Covid-19 pandemic has led Ozzie Colley into a new career in horticulture.
Ozzie Colley studied Certificate III in Parks and Gardens at South West TAFE.

“When Covid hit, I was laid off from my job and ended up working at Northern Grampians Shire Council in Stawell in their cleaning program,” he said.

When a position for an apprentice in the parks and gardens team arose, Ozzie said he was encouraged to apply and was really glad he did.

He is now half way through his apprenticeship and is enjoying the new skills and knowledge he is gaining from his work and his studies in the Certificate III in Parks and Gardens with South West TAFE.

Ozzie said the plant identification and pest and diseases units were particularly helping him in his work at council.

“I have always been into mechanics. I would have never picked myself as a green thumb, but I’m learning so much and really like it,” he said.
