Skills Solution Partnership Program

/
South West TAFE, in partnership with Melbourne Polytechnic, is launching a free Skills Solutions Program to support workers in the manufacturing sector in building confidence, capability, and career pathways.

The program is tailored for existing workers—particularly those from rural backgrounds, culturally diverse communities, or with limited experience in large-scale manufacturing environments. It focuses on strengthening essential language, literacy, numeracy, and digital (LLND) skills in a practical, supportive setting.

Delivered over eight sessions across a fortnightly schedule, the program is underpinned by a strong workplace health and safety theme. As participants develop their core skills, they also gain a deeper understanding of safe work practices, effective communication, and how to contribute confidently within a team environment.

Training will take place at the South West TAFE Hamilton campus from 9:00am to 4:00pm, with catering provided. Support will be available to ensure all learners can easily access the session.

By the end of the program, participants will be equipped to:

  • Work safely by following workplace procedures and using tools and equipment correctly
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with colleagues
  • Apply simple problem-solving techniques and Lean thinking to improve efficiency
  • Plan and manage their work effectively
  • Deliver quality outcomes and contribute ideas for workplace improvement

The learning experience combines practical activities, group discussions, guided tasks, and interactive online components—helping participants build confidence while developing real-world skills they can immediately apply in the workplace.

The second half of the program is particularly suited to those looking to step into leadership roles, such as team leaders or leading hands, making it a valuable pathway for career progression.

With limited places remaining for the Hamilton intake, interested participants or employers are encouraged to get in touch to learn more or request a sample of the training content.
