The Pure Hair Beauty and Wellness Academy is hoping to go one step further this year after also being named as a finalist as Educator of the Year Organisation in 2018, while Ms Muller has reached Australia’s premier beauty industry awards for the first time in the individual educator category.

Both categories have 10 finalists from across Australia.

South West TAFE Hair, Beauty and Wellness Senior Educator Kathy Hall said it was a great honour to be named as a finalist in successive years.

“We hope to go one step further this year but it’s really good to be recognised at this level for what we do best, which is education,” Ms Hall said.

“We put our students first and work with industry to ensure we develop the graduates they want.”

Ms Hall said reaching the finals two years in a row was great recognition for the hard work put in by staff.

Ms Muller said getting to know students and what they require and continually training to improve were the keys to being a good educator.

Ms Muller has worked in nail technology for five years and previously operated The Nail Studio by JM.

“That led me to complete my Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to start work at South West TAFE which turned into full-time teaching,” she said. “I’m really thankful for where my career has taken me. Being a finalist for this award is a great opportunity and I wouldn’t have had been able to do it without working here.”

Ms Muller, who specialises in all nail enhancements and nail art, is quietly confident though she realises she’s up against the best in the business.

“I think I’ve got a pretty good chance because I put in a lot of effort. I continually train and upskill to become better as a teacher, though I know everyone on the list has a lot of experience and I’m quite early in my career.”

Ms Muller’s nomination follows a successful 2018 when she received gold, silver and bronze medals at Nailympia Australia and four bronze medals at the Australian Nail Championships.

The Australian Beauty Industry Awards are recognised as the benchmark of excellence and the highest accolade in the industry.
