Introduction
This hands-on course is designed to build confidence in assessing tree health, structure, and risk. You will learn how to identify defects, understand how trees respond to stress and wind load, and apply Australian Standards to real-world tree management decisions.
This course is ideal for arborists, grounds staff, landscapers, and anyone involved in tree assessment or maintenance.
What will I Learn?
During this course you will learn:
- Root plate and Structural Root Zone (SRZ) inspection,
- Tree stability, balance, symmetry, and suppression,
- Identification of common tree faults, including:
- Deadwood and hanging limbs
- Delamination and structural weaknesses
- Included vs excluded bark unions
- Bifurcated stems
- Tree health indicators: pests, disease, dieback, wounds, and previous failures,
- Trees as habitat for local wildlife.
You will also learn about tree biology, tree protection and standards and pruning principles.
This course will help you to:
- Conduct clear, basic visual tree assessments,
- Identify defects affecting safety and longevity,
