Course Overview
Introduction

Learn the basic techniques of free-motion machine embroidery, a simple but highly versatile way to draw with your sewing machine (also known as freehand embroidery).

In this course, our experienced trainer will help develop your creative skills in a variety of free-motion machine embroidery techniques and once you have mastered the basics, you will design and create your own personal piece.

Course Requirements
Entrance requirements & pre-requisites

  • Basic sewing machine skills
  • Minimum entry age of 16 years old

Course requirements

What to bring: 

  • Provide photo ID to the trainer on the first day of the course
  • General: scissors, pins, pens, paper
  • Embroidery hoop: cane or plastic hand embroidery ones are fine (approx. 25 cms)
  • One spool of thread per student is provided - you are required to provide additional thread - Ordinary sewing machine cotton or poly cotton, matt appearance. Guterman and Sew Easy are good. (not needed week one)
  • (Avoid ‘machine embroidery’ threads these are usually rayon which is very lustrous. Also avoid old, sun damaged or cheap thread which is very prone to break.)
  • Sewing machines are provided
  • If you bring along your own it does need to be a model that you can disengage the feed dogs or has a darning plate, along with a darning or free-motion embroidery sewing foot that fits your machine.

How do I pay for the short course?
