Skill sets are courses that are available free of any tuition fees for eligible applicants. These courses are not part of the Free TAFE program and therefore will not impact your eligibility to study a Free TAFE course in the future.

Construction Industry Skill Sets

The Construction Industry Skill Sets offers free* accredited training to give you the skills to gain work and work safely and effectively in the construction industry. These skill sets are being will be available until the end of 2022 and you can access up to three of the Construction Industry Skill Sets for free.

Construction Industry Skill Sets available at SWTAFE:

These courses are fee-free for eligible applicants and will be exempt from the usual Government-subsidised eligibility criteria. There may still be material fees you will be required to pay.

Agriculture Chemical Skill Set

The Agriculture Chemical Skill Set offers free* accredited training for eligible applicants who works with chemicals in their everyday work and will give them the skills and knowledge to safely work with chemicals. This course is tuition fee-free for eligible applicants, material fees still apply.

Free TAFE Short Courses

Course in Identifying and Responding to Family Violence Risk

The Course in Identifying and Responding to Family Violence Risk offers free* accredited training for eligible applicants. The course is offered fee-free to applicants who do not have family violence as a core function of their role and are currently employed or volunteering in a universal service organisation such as a school, early childhood, justice, community and health services, sport and recreation organisation or faith-based organisation.

Introduction to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

The Introduction to the NDIS offers free* accredited training for eligible current and future workers that work with the NDIS. They will gain the necessary information to understand the type of direct support work required for working within the NDIS.

Course in Working Safely in the Solar Industry

The ​Course in Working Safely in the Solar Industry offers free* accredited training for eligible electricians, plumbers, apprentices and trade assistants who want to increase their safety awareness on solar installations. This course is funded as part of the Victorian Government's Solar Homes training and workforce development package in conjunction with the Department of Education and Training’s Skills First package.
