As a South West TAFE student, you can access a variety of FREE support services that will enhance your study experience and help you to complete your studies successfully.

Free student support and services

Library 

The Warrnambool Library and Learning Centre supports teaching and learning at SWTAFE by providing:

  • access to relevant, reliable and up to date resources which support SWTAFE curriculum
  • facilities for individual study/research and group collaboration
  • access to computers and Wi-Fi
  • access to printing, scanning & photocopying facilities
  • information skills training and support

Learning support

Do you need help with your studies? Free support sessions are available to help you succeed. Assistance is available in maths, computer skills, spelling and punctuation, understanding assessments, assignment writing, research and referencing. Pop in and see our helpful team.

The Learning Support Unit is a free and confidential service designed to help you build the skills you need to be successful at TAFE. Our friendly teachers can help students with all aspects of their study. We offer one-on-one tutoring, classroom-based support, 24-hour support with Studiosity and drop-in sessions, so you can get the help you need, whenever you need it.

Support appointments will be offered initially by phone or online sessions. From time to time the LSU will hold virtual support drop-in workshops which will be promoted through your teachers and online.

Studiosity - study help, anywhere anytime

If you need help with English, maths, science, accounting, assignment writing, or just want a study coach, then Studiosity is your first port of call.  Receive written feedback, live chat over text or communicate over email. It’s available when you need it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can use Studiosity via Connect Live or Writing Feedback.

Connect Live 24/7 provides on-demand study help where you are able to receive support from a real person via an interactive classroom - with chat, collaborative whiteboard, and file sharing. You can ask questions, send documents and have a tutor coach you through to an appropriate answer.

Writing Feedback provides written detailed feedback on assignments within 24 hours. Simply upload your work to the portal and receive detailed feedback in your inbox the next day. Our tutors will be able to help with assignment structure, grammar, and English skills.

Both Connect Live and Writing Feedback are available FREE to students via SWTAFE Online (Moodle) using your normal SWTAFE log in details.

Student wellbeing team

Our student wellbeing team aims to help you, whether it’s personal, social or educational issues impacting you. They provide free access to student counsellors, chaplains and more. They are available to chat, and can help you stay positive and focused on your studies.

Koorie support

Our Koorie Student Support Officers provide direct support to Koorie learners aiming to foster a positive and productive education experience. They are available to assist you with questions you have with your enquiries, enrolment, studies and home work.

The Koorie Student Support Officers are here to help with:

  • Support with SWTAFE enrolment process
  • Navigating our campuses, getting to class and meeting other Koorie students
  • Orientation to TAFE services including the Learning Support Unit, Student Wellbeing, Library, Skills and Jobs Centre
  • Time management and study tips
  • Abstudy and Scholarship applications
  • Liaising with teaching and support staff, on behalf of the Koorie student.

We also have Koorie Liaison Officers who provide Indigenous consultation between South West TAFE and local Indigenous organisations.

Our Koorie Liaison Officers are here to help SWTAFE employees with:

  • Engaging and liaising with community organisations
  • Organising tours ‘on country’ at Moyjil, Budjbim or Koroitj
  • The planning and implementation of the SWTAFE’s Indigenous Strategy
  • Identifying educational needs within the communities of SWTAFE’s catchment
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of the SWTAFE’s Reconciliation Action Plan
  • Implementation of the Wurreker Strategy and Marrung Plan.

Disability services

The Disability Support team is committed to providing enhancing opportunities for students with a disability, or medical or mental health condition to engage and succeed in their educational goals.

We take steps to ensure that suitable and reasonable adjustments are explored collaboratively and a person-centred approach is applied to all students. 

An Individualised Support Plan is developed for students at South West TAFE and can include:

  • exploring what learning environments work best for the student
  • adjustments that can be made by the teacher or environment
  • strategies that will support engagement and independence
  • assistive technology that may be used during studies
  • management plans (epilepsy, diabetes, behavioural)
  • other key information that will help make a student’s learning journey with South West TAFE a success.

The South West Skills and Jobs Centre

The Skills and Jobs Centre is available to provide free career advice and assistance.  Our qualified career practitioners can help you on your career and educational journey.  Our Skills and Jobs Centre is open to the entire community and all services are FREE.

Health services

Headspace Warrnambool provides a free bulk-billed GP service for students aged under 24. 

The following GP services are available:

  • Physical health issues and injury worries
  • Vaccinations
  • Work ready health checks
  • Nutritional advice
  • Mental health concerns
  • Sexual health screening and counselling
  • Pregnancy testing and emergency contraception
  • Antenatal care
