A career in cabinet making has been the perfect fit for Luana
I was sent an advert for a 1st year cabinet making apprentice and thought it would be something I’d really enjoy so I decided to pursue it.
I did a month’s trial with GM Cabinets to see if I enjoyed it and if I was a good fit for their business and I haven’t looked back. I’m currently in my third year and I love it. I like that we get to work together with all different trades and there’s always something to learn. Working as a cabinet maker also keeps me really fit.
It was an adjustment – not just for me but I’m sure for the rest of the team having a female on site but the team are like extra brothers to me now and are so helpful and supportive.
I really enjoy my time at SWTAFE as we learn so many different techniques and intricate hand skills to what we learn on the job and my teacher has been great.
I love that it’s a career that I can work anywhere with as I plan to work and travel overseas one day.
