Introduction
Are you currently working in the residential or out-of-home care sector and need to gain the minimum qualification to continue working in this field?
This skill set supports the Victorian minimum qualification requirement, introduced on 1 January 2018, which requires all residential care workers providing direct care in a residential care home funded or delivered by the Department of Family Fairness and Housing to either hold the Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and Out-of-Home Care), or complete a recognised relevant qualification plus a short top-up skills course.
The program focuses on strengthening core skills in trauma-informed practice, working effectively in residential care, supporting young people with complex trauma and attachment needs, and responding to behaviour in a residential care environment. The program supports a consistent baseline of knowledge and skills across the residential care workforce.
What will I Learn?
This course is held via a three-hour virtual workshop each fortnight over 16 weeks on Microsoft Teams.
It will cover units including how to work effectively in trauma informed care, how to facilitate responsible behaviour, how to provide support to children and youth in out-of-home care and how to work with children and young people with complex trauma and attachment issues.
